At the performance I attended, Ella, a once gifted and original artist, seemed to rush through the script, barely allowing one word to escape his lips before rushing to the next, almost slurring. No matter how great their creativity and skills, it's hard for artists to keep things fresh as they mature, especially when they repeat the same performances thousands of times. He seemed so concerned with mouthing the script in a rote way that it was hard to follow. I felt he was mailing it in. Sorry to say. He did produce grand illusions that kept my interest, but the hurried story line was poorly presented and beyond implausible. I think he should take some time off and create a fresh new show.
